Congress, BJP gun for Parkash Singh Badal over relocation of AIIMS

Ruling SAD's ally BJP along with opposition Congress on Sunday appealed the Punjab government to reconsider its decision of setting up AIIMS in Bhatinda as against the earlier proposal to establish it in Doaba region.

Congress general secretary, Satnam Kainth, said that the state government's decision is wrong and it is injustice to the people Doaba region.

Centre recently approved a project of setting up AIIMS in Doaba. After proposing to set up All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Doaba Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced to establish it in Bhatinda.

"Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, should give reason for changing the location of the project. I have written a letter to former chief minister, Capt. Amarinder Singh, and have requested him to discuss with central government to convert Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences in Jalandhar, as AIIMS. The decision to make AIIMS in Punjab was of Vajpayee government," BJP Leader Manorajan Kalia said.

Requesting the CM to reconsider his decision, Union Minister, Vijay Sampla said, that the final decision of where it should be establish will be of state government. He also added that, it was first decided to be in Badal's own constituency but later it was shifted to Bhatinda.

Congress spokesperson, Sukhpal Singh Khera, led a protest in front of the office of district administrator today and asked state government to reconsider their decision.

He also alleged the state government for taking all major projects to Bhatinda because of which development in rest of the area is not there. Earlier, Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, in an interview to the reporters, accused BJP and Congress leader of making it a political issue.
