Congress on Wednesday hailed the US president Barack Obama for calling upon the young Indians to follow the two essential fundamentals of India’s constitutional ethos – India’s diversity and right to freedom of religion enshrined in Article 25 – and fighting bigotry and sectarian forces. Congress on Wednesday hailed the US president Barack Obama for calling upon the young Indians to follow the two essential fundamentals of India’s constitutional ethos – India’s diversity and right to freedom of religion enshrined in Article 25 – and fighting bigotry and sectarian forces. "For decades, the Congress has epitomised this core idea of India i.e. part of India’s constitutional ethos that the US president spoke about," Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said.
He also asked prime minister Narendra modi to learn from his new friend Obama's advice and do the necessary course correction from unilateralism to India's inherent pluralism. "Is the prime minister ready to look within and do the necessary course correction of his government and party, and check lumpen elements within the Sangh Parivar who are tarnishing the peaceful co-habitative co-existence within our polity," Surjewala asked.
He also described omission of words 'secularism' and 'socialism' from a government advertisement depicting the preamble of the Constitution as an overt and covert agenda of testing waters on Republic Day.
