Congress on Friday sought to corner the government over the terror attack on a police station in Jammu and Kashmir which left four persons including three securitymen dead, wondering whether the policies of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed were a reason behind it.

"Why is the Chief Minister silent? ... Either your CM is not listening to you or you are unable to take any action," Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge told the BJP in Lok Sabha, as Home Minister Rajnath Singh rose to make a statement on today's attack on a police station in Kathua.

Singh, however, refrained from replying to Kharge's swipe and stuck to the specifics of the terror attack and urged the House to appreciate the valour of the state police and CRPF personnel who gunned down the two militants involved in the attack.

"I am sure the House will laud the bravery shown by the state police and CRPF personnel," he said as members thumped desks when he gave out details on the attack and the action by security forces.

It was the first such attack since the PDP-BJP government took over in the state.

Referring to the state government's recent decision to "release terrorists", Kharge asked if the Minister was "allergic" to speak on the matter.

The state government's decision to release hardline separatist Masrat Alam besides Sayeed's appreciation for Pakistan, militants and Hurriyat for smooth polls in the state had sparked an uproar in Parliament earlier, forcing the BJP- led government at the Centre to denounce them.
