Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Thursday stated that his party will be the happiest if Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India campaign delivers, but also reminded the BJP-led NDA Government that mere usage of phrases or showmanship won't help, rather it was time for them to act.
"We would be the happiest if the Make in India slogan leads to measurable deliverables, measurable countables. But reality is not found in slogans or three word phrases, like Make in India, or mere sound bites or showmanship," Singhvi told ANI here.
"It is found for example by making concrete National Manufacturing Policy, which we as the UPA are proud to have done, which is under the implementation of industrial corridors. If Mr. Modi carries it further we will be the happiest to support him," he said.
The Congress leader said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes up with a concrete labour policy then the government can expect support from his party.
"It is by making a concrete labour policy, if it is good for labour and for productivity we will be the first to support him. So let's get away from slogans and mere words and get into action. And we will then comment on the deliverables and measurable," he added.
The NDA Government's "Make in India" initiative has been launched today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the objective of making the country a manufacturing hub for domestic and foreign companies.
During his Independence Day speech on August 15, Prime Minister Modi had appealed to the people the world over to come and make in India and sell their products in any country of the world.
He had then asserted that India has the skill, talent, discipline and determination to achieve.
The "Make in India" initiative will act as a first reference point for guiding foreign investors on all aspects of regulatory and policy issues and assist them in obtaining regulatory clearances.
The Centre has already allowed 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) under the automatic route in construction, operation and maintenance in rail infrastructure projects and increased FDI in defence from 26 to 49 per cent.
It has also created a separate Department of Skill Development to equip the working age population with the right skills.
The initiative is expected to focus on job creation and skill enhancement in 25 key sectors such as automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles and tourism and hospitality.
It will also be aimed at identifying select domestic companies having leadership in innovation and new technology for turning them into global leaders and promoting green and advanced manufacturing.
A dedicated cell has been created to answer queries from business entities through a newly created web portal www.makeinindia.com.
