Congress activists chase NPP supporters during poll campaign in Rajasthan

A group of Congress activists on Tuesday confronted and chased National People's Party (NPP) workers and damaged the windscreen of a vehicle in the presence of a Union minister in the Gangapur constituency of Rajasthan's Sawaimadhopur district.

Police said the trouble started when both groups were campaigning at Naya Gaon and got into arguments over some petty issues.

"After a mob gathered, the NPP workers left the place but Congress workers chased them and damaged the windscreen of one of their vehicles," circle officer of police Narendra Singh said, adding that there was also reports of firing in the air, but he could not confirm it.

"Union Minister (of State for Finance) Namonarain Meena and Congress candidate Ramkesh were present during the incident," he said.

A case has been lodged by NPP workers at the Gangapur city police station, the police officer said.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma's NPP is led by tribal leader Kirori Meena in Rajasthan. The party has fielded candidates in 150 of 200 Assembly constituencies in the state, many of them are rebels of both BJP and Congress.
