A day after Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami resigned from his post after government asked him to put in his papers, senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma today accused the Narendra Modi government of indulging in vindictive politics.

"Removal of Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami is an act of vindictive politics," the Jammu and Kashmir Congress leader said. Sharma said the removal of Goswami from the position was an act of bias against the "son of soil" from Jammu.

"The Prime Minister removed the son of the soil just to appease one of his cabinet colleagues," he said.

Sharma accused the BJP of "saffronising" the top bureaucracy of the country by appointing the blue-eyed people on the top positions in the country.

"BJP government is working on the behest of RSS to saffronise the top bureaucracy of the country, they are the murdering the principles of governance," he said. He said that Goswami was the first administrative officer from Jammu who had reached the position of the Union Home Secretary.

"The NDA government has spoiled his 37 years of career, on false and flimsy grounds," he said.

Goswami, a 1978 batch IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, was appointed as Home Secretary in 2013 during the tenure of UPA government. Goswami was shown the door on Wednesday in the wake of the controversy over his alleged attempt to stall the arrest of Saradha scam accused Matang Sinh, a former Congress minister in the PV Narasimha Rao's government.
