Launching a fresh attack on the Bhartiya Janata Party, Congress on Friday alleged that the Modi government is trying to sabotage Rahul Gandhi's outreach programmes with Overseas Indians in UK and Germany.

Madhu Gaur Yaski, co-ordinator of the Congress' overseas cell and AICC secretary, told WION that the BJP government through Indian embassies is trying to undermine Gandhi's visit to UK and Germany.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Hamburg on 22nd August, Berlin on 23rd and London on 24th and 25th. When WION spoke to Madhu Gaur Yaski he said, "There was tremendous pressure from Indian Embassy on Overseas Indians to not organise a function for Rahul Gandhi where he was supposed to meet British parliamentarians. Despite it, we will be organising the function in a bigger hall. We thwarted their attempt. MPs with Indian origin population will also come to listen to Rahul Gandhi," said Madhu Gaur Yaski.

Yaski also claimed that the India embassy in Bahrain wrote a letter to the establishment that they cannot host Indian delegation without consulting MEA. "Earlier, we would represent India. The present government has made it into a BJP-Congress affair," said Yaski.

Yaski would accompany Rahul Gandhi to the London end of the trip. Rahul Gandhi would also be accompanied by Milind Deora, former union minister. Madhu Gaur Yaski also said that similar resistance was met in Singapore too.

When WION spoke to Milind Deora, he said that overseas Indians outreach programme is important to the Congress and it is for this reason Rahul Gandhi is taking time to meet them at regular intervals. Recently Milind Deora and Sachin Pilot went to Australia and met with host of Indians of Rajasthani origin who showed great interest in participating in coming assembly elections in Rajasthan.

The overseas Indians were a strength for the Congress at one point of time but RSS has far outpaced Congress Party. One of the most important feature of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi reach programme has been his diaspora meetings in which he has been battering the Congress.

Today the grand old party understand as to what it has lost to BJP. Indians living abroad have great impact on Indian politics. With the proxy voting mechanism in place, Congress is at a tremendous disadvantage during Lok Sabha polls of 2019. India overseas are not only a source of funds but help Indian government network abroad. With the world becoming one village, Congress is trying to make up for the lost time.

When WION spoke to Milind Deora he acknowledged the contribution of the people of Indian origins and overseas Indians to the India success story. Milind Deora and Sam Pitroda with Madhu are the men assigned to retrieve the lost ground for the Congress. Sam Pitroda operates from Chicago. He was a close friend of former PM Rajiv Gandhi and player a key role in tele communication revolution.
