Congress accuses BJP of hacking its own website

Accusing BJP of indulging in communal politics by hacking into its own website and uploading defamatory material, the Gujarat Congress appealed to the Election Commission (EC) to find out possible involvement of BJP leaders behind the act.

While speaking to reporters, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Arjun Modhwadia accused BJP of spreading hatred between communities by hacking their Junagarh unit's website and posting defamatory material having anti-national comments and photographs.

"The website was intentionally hacked to spread hatred among communities by posting defamatory material on it. We also learnt that some people are trying to establish that a Kashmiri group is behind the hacking. This is purely an attempt to get votes by playing the communal card ahead of the election," Modhwadia said.

He was referring to a police complaint lodged by office bearers of the Junagadh BJP against unidentified person for hacking into their website www.bjpjunagadh.org and posting defamatory photographs and writings about BJP, RSS and Narendra Modi.

Modhwadia linked the hacking incident with Amit Shah's controversial speech in Bijnor yesterday, where he allegedly asked voters to "take revenge" during polls.

"Shah's comments suggest where the BJP is heading. From the issue of development, their focus has now shifted to communalism. We request the EC to investigate the hacking of Junagadh BJP's website and to lodge a case against BJP leaders if they are found guilty," Modhwadia said.
