In a stinging attack on Arvind Kejriwal, Congress on Tuesday accused him of resorting to "low level politics" and said it will launch a door-to-door programme to "expose" the AAP leader on his "U-turn" on the bail bond and other issues.
The Congress' sharp attack on Kejriwal came on a day the AAP leader furnished the bail bond in a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari, changing his earlier stand against it.
"Kejriwal is resorting to low level politics. His going to jail was a pure drama to gain political mileage. It was not a moral issue as claimed by him. Agreeing to furnish bail bond in the case proved that he was resorting to theatrics," Chief spokesperson of Delhi Congress Mukesh Sharma said.
The Delhi Congress leader said the party would soon launch a door-to-door campaign to expose the AAP leader who has been "misleading the poor people" of the city.
"He has done all this to grab power again in Delhi. People have realised his intention and that is why nobody had protested against his arrest. We thank Delhiites for not supporting him," said Sharma.
0A Delhi court on Tuesday ordered release of Kejriwal from Tihar Jail after the he furnished the bail bond. Earlier in the day, the high court suggested Kejriwal to furnish a bail bond and get released from the jail.
He was sent to judicial custody by the magistrate on May 21 for two days. On May 23, his custody was extended by 14 days till June 6 after he again refused to furnish a bail bond.
The AAP had said that Kejriwal refused to furnish the bond on "moral ground" as agreeing to it would mean that he accepted that he was guilty.
Congress has been targeting AAP as the party feels its vote bank has shifted to the new party which had made a dream debut in the assembly polls winning 28 of 70 seats. AAP did not win a single seat in the Lok Sabha polls but its vote share increased from 29.49% to 32.9%.
The assembly election is likely to be held in Delhi within next six-seven months as both Congress and BJP have said they would prefer fresh polls.
After Congress refused to extend support to AAP last week to form a government again, the party said it was also ready for election.
