The first list of candidates in Congress party comprising of 70 to 100 names may be released any time now. The first meeting of the central election committee (CEC) will take place on Monday, today, when the CEC will give its approval to the list. Before this meeting, the screening committee will also hold its meeting in New Delhi. The list will be released the moment it gets an approval.
Highly placed sources informed that CEC may drop a few names submitted by the screening committee and a few others may make a surprising entry. “Party can release the first list immediately after the meeting of CEC, scheduled on Monday. A couple of names may be dropped and new addition can take place at CEC level,” sources said.
“Party will announce its first list before the end of this month, any how,” said a senior leader camping in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, PCC chief Chandrabhan and chief minister Ashok Gehlot left for New Delhi late on Sunday evening. Most Congress leaders and ticket aspirants are camping in New Delhi to make their final pitch for election tickets.
Leaders camping in Delhi have intensified their efforts as it’s the final race for them at CEC-level.
Many, like Gopal Meena, are using pressure tactics. Meena came with hundreds of his supporters demanding that PCC chief to repeat his candidature from Jamwa Ramgarh.
Highly placed sources informed that the party may also release another list of candidates before Diwali on November 3. And the remaining names would be declared between November 5 and 8.
The Congress will declare the remaining candidates and will complete the ticket distribution exercise on all the 200 assembly constituencies in this period.
Earlier on Saturday, Gehlot held an hour-long discussion with Rahul Gandhi over distribution of tickets and candidates. Two days back Rahul had called Gehlot, CP Joshi and Ajay Maken on lunch to hold discussions on ticket distribution.
