Mukesh and Nita Ambani's eldest son Akash got engaged to Shloka Mehta, daughter of Russell and Mona Mehta.

According to media reports, Akash proposed to Sholka on Saturday at a family gathering in Goa.

Akash and Shloka are alumni of Dhirubhai Ambani Internation School (DAIS) in Mumbai. The Ambanis and Mehtas, who own world's largest diamond trading company - Rosy Blue Diamonds - know each other very well.

Proud mother Nita Ambani told Bombay Times, "Mukesh and I have given very strong foundation to our kids and even larger wings to fly - they have the freedom to take decisions for themselves and of course, choose whom they would want to spend the rest of their lives with. Marrying the one you love is gratifying and heart-warming. I have known Shloka since she was four and we are all delighted to welcome her to our home and our hearts."

While Akash, along with sister Isha, is supposedly the brain behind Reliance Jio, Shloka is a Director of the Rosy Blue Foundation. She is also a co-founder of an organisation called ConnectFor. This organisation helps other NGOs get volunteers for their respective causes.

Though Shloka and Akash were studying together in DAIS, after graduation, they went their separate ways to pursue further studies. Akash is an alum of US Ivy League college, Brown University. Shloka studied anthropology at Princeton University. She did her Masters in Law from the prestigious London School of Economics.

Feeling lucky to have found love of his life in Shloka, Akash told the daily, "I am truly happy that our friendship has blossomed into love and Shloka and I are getting married, She is a truly special and extremely kind-hearted person."

"Despite years and busy schedules, we have always found ways to stay connected. Akash is incredibly grounded and we share a bond based on meaning and memories. We don't just get along - we also support each other's hopes and aspirations and are determined to build a sense of purpose into our lives together. We are lucky to have a love that began from being best friends and luckier still to have such supportive families," said Shloka.

Rumour mills are churning out stories at lightning speed. They are speculating that the couple will tie the knot later this year. But according to a PTI report,  the two families have refused to comment on the wedding.

The report also said that if sources are to be believed an announcement of engagement can be made in next few weeks with the wedding being planned for early December.

"No dates of either the wedding or engagement of Akash Ambani have been finalised".

"As and when any good news is to be shared, the family will be delighted to share with everyone," the source said.
