The Kerala government today decided to implement a comprehensive scheme for development of the state's only tribal gram panchayat-- Edamalakkudy, in Idukki district.

The decision in this regard was taken at the state cabinet here.

It also decided to implement the decisions taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on March 13 with regard to the remote panchayat, an official release said.

As part of the implementation of the scheme, the gram panchayat office would be shifted immediately to Edamalakkudy.

The buildings will be constructed there as far as possible as per traditional and heritage designs, according to the release.

A new health centre would be set up in the village, the lower primary school upgraded, and people in the area who have passed 10th standard, be given job training, it said.

Hostel facilties would be provided to both boys and girl students, and a model residential school started.

Various schemes would be introduced to provide drinking water, better roads, and power to the remote region.

All aganwadi buildings would be completed in a time bound manner, it said, adding, as part of 'Life mission' in the panchayat, a house for all scheme would be implemented.

To implement various schemes, Devikulam sub-collector, has been appointed as special officer, the release added.
