On Sunday, after being castigated for comments he allegedly made about Rajputs, Paresh Rawal apologised. He claimed his ‘monkey’ comment was aimed at the Nizam of Hyderabad and not Rajputs. The Karni Sena, in the news over the protests against Padmavati, had warned Paresh Rawal over his statement.

He said: “I apologise unconditionally to all the members of Rajput community. I don't know why I spoke those words. I never intended to hurt sentiments of any community: Paresh Rawal on his earlier statement allegedly comparing royals and music with monkeys.”

He had apologised earlier as well, claiming that the message wasn’t for the Rajput community but aimed at ‘Nizam of Hyderabad’.

‘My statement was not on the Rajput community. They are a splendour community in India and they make us proud. Nothing wrong will come out of my mouth against such a brave community,’ Rawal told the media.

‘If anyone was hurt by the statement I would like to apologise for it,’ he added.

The actor-turned-politician, while remembering Sardar Patel at a recent rally in Rajkot, had compared the royals (raja) and music (vaja) to monkeys (vandra), which did not go down well

Rawal was in the eye of the storm a few days ago, when he wrote and deleted a tweet regarding the 'Yuva Desh's derogatory meme. However, he later issued an apology for ‘hurting feelings’.

In the tweet that is now deleted, he had written, ‘Our Chai-Wala is any day better than tour Bar-Wala !’

The 67-year-old actor-turned-politician was responding to the ‘Indian Youth Congress' online magazine ‘Yuva Desh,’ where they tweeted a picture of Prime Minister Modi in conversation with U.S President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Theresa May. However, later he issued an apology and wrote, ‘Deleted the tweet as it’s in bad taste n I apologise for hurting feelings.’
