Communal tension has been prevailing in Kalol town of Gandhinagar District in north Gujarat after a youth was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Ashok Patel was allegedly attacked and killed with swords by three men on Sunday night around 9:30 pm.

Patel's body was found in a puddle of blood at Chhatral village near Kalol. His relatives suspect that some people from different community may be behind his murder.

The body of Patel, a factory owner, was brought to Kalol civil hospital for post-mortem but relatives of victim refused to accept his body before those behind his murder are arrested. Members from the Patel community also sat on a dharna and blocked Ahmedabad-Mehsana highway.

Police denied communal angle in his murder and blamed personal rivalry.

"This is because of personal rivalry that has taken ugly form of communal clash. However, the situation is totally under control and no incident of violence has been reported after this case. The situation is tense and police force has been deployed in Kalol and surrounding areas," Vijay Patel, Incharge superintendent of police in Gandhinagar District, said.

Police sources said that the incident is an outcome of a case reported three months ago in which a Muslim boy was killed during a communal clash between two communities in Chhatral village. This was echoed in Kalol town too and there were incidents of stone pelting.

The Gandhinagar district police has taken the incident seriously and has acted with sensitivity as relatives of the deceased are active members of Sardar Patel Group(SPG), a Patel community outfit participating in quota agitation.

Meanwhile, a Patel outfit has launched a 35-day long Yatra from Unjha Umiyadham on Sunday to create another political stir in Gujarat.

BJP chief Amit Shah also is in Ahmedabad for Chintan Bethak of the party's Gujarat unit.  SGVP Gurukul, the venue of Shah's meeting, is 20km far from Kalol town.
