Upset about the steep decline in tourism in Kashmir after the last year's unrest,  state chief minister Mehbooba Mufti who is visiting Mumbai said that the best way to pay homage to martyrs of the violence is to visit Kashmir.

"A strange desertion has taken over the streets of Kashmir. It pains my heart to see it. I have come here to request all of you to come to Kashmir again and give us our bread and butter. We strive on tourism," said Mufti on Friday evening at a film promotional event.

Refusing to entertain any political questions, Mufti when asked to comment on India and Pakistan's relationship said she would stand by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's statement, "You can change your friends but you can't change your neighbours" .

Making a passing reference to last year's violence Mufti said, "I want all of you to come over as I want to see my children chasing birds and butterflies and throwing stones at each other." She also blamed media for exaggerated coverage of violence which shaped the impression of unrest in entire Kashmir.  "It was just one corner of Kashmir which saw the unrest but people even stopped coming to Jammu, "she added.

With loads of Bollywood celebrities turning up at the event, Mufti was asked who would she liked to be brand ambassador of Kashmir between Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone. The CM replied she would prefer the Khan brothers, particularly Salman Khan.

Mufti also said she is considering converting a village of Kashmir into Film city to encourage more shooting in the valley. The chief minister said she was here to meet a few industrialist and has got positive response from them.  "Two years ago my father had come to Mumbai to invite all of you to Kashmir. Today I have come to do the same. Please do visit us, "she added.
