Cold wave conditions continued to send shivers across much of North India on Tuesday morning. Temperatures dipped in windy conditions in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Western Uttar Pradesh. Foggy conditions have delayed trains and flights across the region.

Schools remain shut in several places in the region. While schools in Agra will remain shut till Wednesday, Ghaziabad has shut its schools till Saturday.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is using its social media presence to post simple advisories on how to deal with the cold wave. It has suggested adequate layers of clothing, frequently drinking warm drinks, avoiding alcohol, monitoring media reports for updates and checking in on elderly neighbours.

The temperature settled around 7 degrees Celsius in the early hours of Tuesday in Delhi. While this is consistent with the long-term averages, a slight wind chill factor has been felt. Officials have said a total of 17 trains connecting Delhi have been delayed, along with a number of flights thanks to reduced visibility in the early hours.

Punjab and Haryana faced lower temperatures than the national capital, with mercury dipping to 5.3 degrees in Adampur. Ludhiana,. Halwara, Bathinda, Hisar, Karnal, Narnaul, Patiala, Amritsar and Chandigarh all faced a dip in temperatures. Some of these places also suffered from reduced visibility.

Himachal Pradesh saw a number of places close to freezing, with tourist hotspots like Manali and Kufri at 3.4 degrees and 0.8 degress respectively. However Keylong continued to be the coldest place in the hill state, with the minimum temperature at minus 10.8 degrees Celsius, news agency PTI reported.

Jammu and Kashmir too faced multiple instances of the mercury dipping below the zero mark. Pahalgam continues to be the coldest place in the Valley, with temperatures below 12 degrees. The Jammu region however has reportedly been warmer thanks to some sunshine it received on Monday.
