On Monday, a differently-abled student petitioned the Coimbatore Collector Archana Patnaik during the grievances meeting. The young girl has alleged that the private school where she completed her Class VIII cited her poor handwriting and expelled her from the school.

A report in The New Indian Express states that S Lakshmi Priya was enrolled at St Mary’s High School in Gandhipuram. Her grandmother Jayalakshmi and mother Lalitha accompanied her to meet the Collector. Her grandmother told the daily that Lakshmi Priya was an average student but the school had refused to take her in Class IX. The young girl has a neurological problem and hence cannot write properly, said her grandmother. The Corporation school at Rathinapuri has also refused to enrol her.

The report adds that there were three other differently-abled students in the private school with her but Lakshmi Priya was the only one who was expelled. Jayalakshmi has asked the Collector to help her get back into the private school.
