Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency: Candidates for 2019 LS poll, past results, all updates

In 2019, the key contest in Coimbatore is going to held between BJP's CP Radhakrishnan and CPI(M) PR Natarajan. The two arch rivals in Tamil Nadu — AIADMK and DMK — have not fielded their candidates in Coimbatore and have allotted the seat to their respective alliance partners.

Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency: Lok Sabha election in Coimbatore Parliamentary constituency will take place on April 18, which is the second phase of General election 2019. In 2019, the key contest in Coimbatore is going to held between BJP's CP Radhakrishnan and CPI(M) PR Natarajan. The two arch rivals in Tamil Nadu — AIADMK and DMK — have not fielded their candidates in Coimbatore and have allotted the seat to their respective alliance partners. 
 
AIADMK has entered into an alliance with BJP while DMK has aligned with CPI(M). 
 
Apart from BJP, AIADMK has an alliance with PMK, DMDK, Tamil Maanila Congress, Puthia Tamizagam, Puthia Needhi Katchi and NR Congress. While DMK is contesting the forthcoming election in alliance with Congress, CPI(M), CPI, MDMK, VCK, IUML, KMDK and IJK.   
  
AIADMK's P Nagarajan (M) is the sitting MP in Coimbatore. He defeated CP Radhakrishnan (M) of the BJP in 2014 General election. 
 
Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan's party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has also fileded its candiate R Mahendran from Coimbatore seat. 
 
Since AIADMK and BJP are contesting the forthcoming polls by entering into a pre-poll alliance, BJP has fielded CP Radhakrishnan who had won from the seat in 1998 and 1999 polls. However, he had lost to P Nagarajan in 2014. This time, he will represent AIADMK-BJP alliance in Tamil Nadu. 
 
Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency has six assembly segments, out of them, one is reserved for Scheduled caste candidate.

Coimbatore Lok Sabha election results in 2014, 2009 and 2004
 
2014: P Nagarajan (M) of the AIADMK received 431717 votes. He defeated CP Radhakrishnan (M) of the BJP who secured 389701 votes. 
 
2009: PR Natarajan (M) of the CPM got 293165 votes. He defeated R Prabhu (M) of the Congress who got 254501 votes. 
 
2004: K Subbarayan (M) of the CPI received 504981 votes. He defeated CP Radhakishnan (M) of the BJP who secured 340476 votes. Subbarayan registered victory with a margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes. 
 
Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 parliamentary constituencies where 7 of them including Sriperumbudur, Chidambaram, Rasipuram, Pollachi, Perambalur, Tenkasi, and Nagapattinam have been reserved for candidates representing scheduled caste community. However, no seat here has been reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
