Gujarat-based gas companies cut prices of piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) for domestic as well as vehicular uses on Wednesday after Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas (MoPNG) guidelines, as per statements issued by the state and private companies.

"Pursuant to Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) guidelines to reduce prices of domestic natural gas from US $5.05 per mmBtu to US $4.66 per mmBtu, the Gujarat State Petroleum Company (GSPC) has also introduced rate cuts in CNG and PNG prices with effect from April 2," Gujarat Energy Minister Saurabh Patel said in a statement on Wednesday.

PNG gas will be available at Rs 23.66 standard cubic metre (SCM) from Rs 24.83 per SCM, which will be cheaper by Rs 1.17 per SCM, the statement said. The price of CNG has been reduced from Rs 48.30 per kg to Rs 47 per kg, which will be cheaper by Rs 1.30 per kg (inclusive of all taxes), the statement said.

The Gujarat state government claimed that about 10.50 lakh PNG consumers and 2.50 lakh CNG consumers would benefit from the price reduction. Besides, private gas distribution company Adani also announced a reduction in CNG and PNG prices for its consumers in Ahmedabad as well as Vadodara areas.

"The price of CNG in Ahmedabad and Vadodara has been revised to Rs 46.78 per kg from Rs 48.12 per kg. While, the price of PNG for domestic users has been revised to Rs 24.06 per SCM to Rs 24.80 SCM excluding VAT with effect from April 1, 2015," an Adani statement said. Adani supplies gas to about 1.90 lakh households and around 1.50 lakh CNG users in Ahmedabad and Vadodara, it said.
