Qazi Yasir Ahmad, Mirwaiz (chief cleric) of South Kashmir and president of Ummat-e-Islami, was seen masturbating while chatting with a girl.
A top cleric from South Kashmir, who has been at the forefront of the 'azadi' groundswell in Jammu and Kashmir, has been expelled from his posts after an inappropriate video of him went viral on social media.
Qazi Yasir Ahmad, Mirwaiz (chief cleric) of South Kashmir and president of Ummat-e-Islami, was seen masturbating while chatting with a girl. The 2.6-minute-long video went viral on social media prompting his grandfather and patron of Idara Tahqeeqat-e-Islami Haji Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to expel the 30-year-old cleric from all posts.
Sheikh, who is the grandfather of Yasir, released a video statement apologising to the people over the allegations against Qazi Yasir.
"I am an old man and I have not been keeping well. But because of certain compulsions, I had to come forward to talk to you. Being a patron of the Idara, I have removed Yasir from all posts in view of the allegations against him. He shall have no connection whatsoever with these organisations till investigation is over," Sheikh said.
Yasir's father Qazi Nisar Ahmad was assassinated by terrorists on June 19, 1994 in south Kashmir when his son was a toddler. A founding member of Muslim Muthada Mahaz (Muslim United Front) which contested the controversial 1987 elections, Qazi Nisar was PhD in Arabic from Aligarh Muslim University.
"World knows the services rendered by Qazi family for the people. We witnessed so much of upheaval but never lost courage. Qazi sahib has given blood for the nation. If the allegations are proved against Yasir then he will not have any connection with the family as well," said Sheikh
Repeated attempts to reach out to Yasir for reaction failed as he had switched off his phone and he was unavailable for comments.
