Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah said on Tuesday that the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi should clear their stand over the issue of Ram Mandir. The temple, he said, will be constructed in Ayodhya after the SC directions come. Shah's statement was met with Congress' criticism, with the party blaming BJP for raking the issue to get votes.

Shah was addressing a press conference at BJP's media centre in Ahmedabad. "We demand that the Congress party should clear their stand over Ram Mandir. Are they in favour of an urgent hearing on Ram Mandir issue or do they wish to drag the issue till the Lok Sabha polls of 2019? Whenever this issue comes to surface, they put their leader and lawyer Kapil Sibal before the public. Sibal, who is an advocate for the All India Sunni Waqf Board in the case, had made the submission before the court that the next hearing of this case should be adjourned till July, 2019, until the Lok Sabha polls are over."

Countering the argument, Congress leader Randip Singh Surjewala said: "The BJP is trying to garner votes ahead of Gujarat elections by raising this issue. Everyone knows that their law minister and the parliament agrees with the Congress' stand."

Shah, meanwhile, further said: "I fail to understand that when all documents have been translated and a bench of three judges was to hear the case, why is Congress trying to create impediments against the construction of Ram Mandir? Let people of this nation also know the final order of the court. Rahul Gandhi visits different temples in Gujarat but is trying to hold back the case of Ram Mandir."

"BJP wishes that the order on Ram Madir should be served soon so that the temple of Lord Rama can be constructed," he added.
