Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took a dig at Maharashtra government and BJP after a road-over bridge collapsed in Mumbai's Andheri jeopardising local railway services, which is the lifeline of the city.
Rahul Gandhi tweeted,
Rahul Gandi said. " The streets are flooded, citizens stranded, bridges collapsing.....Civic governance has collapsed. My thoughts are with the citizens of Mumbai Stay safe".
Without naming, he has attacked the Sena run BMC and the BJP run state government in Maharashtra.
A road overbridge (ROB) collapsed on rail tracks in suburban Andheri amid heavy rains here this morning bringing local services of the Western Railway to a halt and affecting some long distance trains, an official said. Five people were injured in the incident, the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said, adding that two of them were seriously hurt.
Train services of the Western Railway (WR) have been stopped after the bridge, built in 1971, collapsed, a railway official said. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has ordered an inquiry into the incident and directed officials to expedite the repair and traffic restoration work.
"Part of Road Over Bridge has fallen on tracks near Andheri Station impacting rail traffic. Directed officials to speed up repair work and rapidly restore traffic in close coordination with other departments. I have also ordered an enquiry by Commissioner of Rail Safety," the minister tweeted.
Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Maheshwar on Tuesday passed the buck on Railways after a road over-bridge (ROB) collapsed on railway tracks in suburban Andheri. The incident took place amid heavy rains in the city bringing local train services of the Western Railway to a halt. At least five people who were injured are being treated in Cooper hospital.
"It was railway's responsibility to check if the bridge was in good condition. BMC is nowhere responsible for the incident," he told reporters. However, amid blame-game over the incident, local MLA Ameet Satam (BJP) said, "This is not the time to play politics. Let us now concentrate on resuming railway services and on the health of injured. After that, it needs to be checked if the structural stability of the bridge was done. If yes then what the report said."
