The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Saturday seized 43 kg of red sandalwood at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday and apprehended two passengers.
Red sandalwood is an expensive wood and is often smuggled to foreign markets where they fetch a heavy price.
The two passengers, identified as Vishal Kumar and Ankit Kumar were bound for Hong Kong when they were held by the CISF.
"On October 12 at about 9:25 pm, on profiling basis, CISF surveillance and intelligence personnel of IGI Airport selected two passengers for thorough checking in check-in area of Terminal-3. They were diverted to random checking point for thorough checking of their luggage," CISF said in a statement.
On physical checking of their baggage, some bundles of red sandalwood weighing approx 43 kg were found inside their bags, it said.
During the enquiry, the passengers could not produce any documents for carrying the same.
Later, both the passengers along with the recovered red sandalwood were handed over to the Customs officials for further legal action.
