As protesters opposing the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film 'Padmaavat' turned violent, blocking roads and vandalising cinema halls, the Chittorgarh Fort in Rajasthan was closed briefly on Wednesday.
The decision to stop the entry of tourists was taken in the morning and then again in the afternoon after members of the Shree Rajput Karni Sena tried to break into the fort. The Chittorgarh Fort forms the setting of controversial film 'Padmaavat,' which is based on the life of Rajput Queen Padmini.
The film has been facing protests by the Karni Sena and other groups over allegations that historical facts were distorted in the movie.

Rajput groups have alleged distortion of historical facts in the period drama starring Padukone, Shahid Kapur and Ranveer Singh. The film is based on the saga of the 13th Century battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi, played by Shahid and Ranveer respectively.
Heavy security force has been deployed at the fort ahead of the release of the film.
In March last year, the fort was vandalised by a group of men who broke mirrors installed at the Padmini Palace.
Three mirrors installed at the Padmini Palace were damaged by four-five unidentified men.
The fort was also the sight of a massive protest in November last year when the protesters blocked the entry and burnt effigies of Bhansali. The entry to the fort remained blocked till 5 pm on November 18.
Rajput groups have carried out protests in several states including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh ahead of the release.
The Ahmedabad Police have arrested 48 people from various locations under act of rioting for unleashing violence in the city last night.
In Mumbai, the police said it has detained around 50 supporters of Karni Sena in the city for protesting against the film.
