A three-year old child has died, reportedly due to the cold, in a private riot relief camp in neighbouring Shamli district, a camp organiser said on Monday.

The child, Uves, died on Sunday due to the cold at Manna Majra village under the Kairana police station, said Kari Alemgir, the organiser of the camp. Incidentally, the death occurred on the same day that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited government relief camps in Shamli, he added.

Three other children have also died in the camp due to the cold during the last few days, he said, adding that around 90 displaced families are living at the Manna Majra village camp.

Rahul Gandhi made an unannounced visit on Sunday to the riot-hit areas of Muzaffarnagar district during which he hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government, alleging the conditions in relief camps were "very bad".

More than 60 people were killed and over 40,000 displaced in communal violence that broke out in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in September 2013.
