Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon on Saturday said former finance minister P Chidambaram is absolutely correct in expressing his anxiety over the deteriorating position of the Congress party.

"Chidambaram is right in expressing his anxiety and serious need to hold introspection within house and rebuild the party much before it is totally gone," Memon said.

"Over the past few months, we are seeing Congress is being decimated to such a situation that they are not even in a position to claim the opposition's position, which is very agonizing and disturbing," he added.

Memon further said it appears there has been growing criticism on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi within the party. "There has been some discussion, although not very openly within Congress that some president from outside Nehru-Gandhi family should now be brought in to check the situation and improve the Congress stock," he added.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Tariq Anwar echoing similar sentiments backed Chidambaram's assertion. "I don't think if he has said anything wrong as there have been leaders apart from Nehru-Gandhi family in Congress earlier as well," he said.

Anwar also supported Chidambaram' take on the black money issue. "He is right in disagreeing with disclosure of selective names of people involved in Black Money issue. The whole list should be given out," he said.

Chidambaram had earlier on Friday said that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should 'speak more' and put in action a timetable that would enable the party to play the role of 'true opposition' at a time when the morale of party cadres is 'pretty low'.

"I would urge the Congress president and the Congress vice-president to speak more. I would urge them to come and address more rallies. I would urge them to meet the media," he told NDTV.

The former finance minister also said that the disclosure of the names of account holders having black money stashed abroad would not affect the Congress party as a whole, and added that it would only embarrass the individuals who are named.
