Both the BJP and Congress rained electoral promises on the last day of campaigning in Chhattisgarh for the first phase of polling on November 12.

Releasing party's election manifesto — Sankalp Patra — in Raipur on Saturday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said, "We will make Chhattisgarh Maoist-free. We will create welfare board for journalists. We will create film city. All students till Class 12 will get free books and uniforms." BJP chief Amit Shah held a massive roadshow in Rajnandgaon where the Congress has given ticket to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's niece Karuna Shukla against sitting chief minister Raman Singh.

After releasing election manifesto, Shah urged party workers to work to secure over 65 seats in the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Raman Singh. Giving credit to the Raman Singh government for successfully countering the menace of Maoists, Shah said, "Chhattisgarh used to be a backward state, but the BJP has worked hard to change that. Today the state is a power hub, cement hub, aluminum hub, medical hub, etc... The state is progressing."

The Congress, on the other hand, focused on poor and youth. Congress president Rahul Gandhi promised to open hostels, provide scholarships for all poor students in the state. "Unlike BJP that serves only for the rich, we will work for all sections of people and not on the basis of caste or religion," said Gandhi.

Trying to reach out to farmers, Gandhi said, "I want Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh to become farming giants in five years. Let people across the country know that their food comes from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh."

He also promised all-loan waiver to poor farmers of Chhattisgarh within 10 days of Congress forming the government. Speaking at Lal Bagh ground in Jagdalpur where PM Modi had attacked the Congress for helping 'urban Naxals' on Friday, Gandhi invoked Indira Gandhi. "We have old relations with Bastar. You remember Indira Gandhi. I will be your soldier in Delhi. I will be with you whenever you need," he said.

To counter Gandhi's blitz, BJP brought Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who called the Congress the biggest obstacle in the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. "If Congress cannot support Lord Ram, it cannot be of any use to the people either," said Aditynath addressing a public meeting in Kawardha.
