With Yogi Adityanath, a five-time MP and the controversial mascot of hardline Hindutva, being chosen to head the government in Uttar Pradesh, Twitteratis had a field day on Saturday with some believing that he deserves a chance to prove himself while others unhappy with BJP's choice.
However, Chetan Bhagat has his own logic to the selection process. According to him, a parallel can be drawn between Adityanath's appointment and that of a class monitor. "#YogiAdityanath as UP CM. Because when you make the naughtiest guy in class the class monitor, he behaves the best," he said.

Responding to his tweet, Omar Abdullah questioned if it applied to the central government.
Which begs the question - does this apply to the central government? What about Rajasthan? Maharashtra? J&K? Madhya Pradesh? Goa? Etc Etc. https://t.co/sx5SN9s3tm

Some people on Twitter also went through Bhagat's previous tweets and also questioned his changing stance:
@chetan_bhagat शायद थूक कर चाटना इसे ही कहते हैं । भाजपाईयों ने इस कला में महारत हासिल की है। pic.twitter.com/qtS1xL1yV5

But, none of these tweets deterred him and Bhagat struck another note on Sunday morning, stating that people "thumping chests on #YogiAdityanath appointment" disturbed him.
With the pro-development people in the bag, it was time for the BJP to cater to its other base, the pro-hindutva types. #YogiAdityanath

As winner BJP can appoint anyone as CM, but if they appoint a polarising anti-Muslim CM party should stop claiming they are secular.

Disturbing to see some thumping chests #YogiAdityanath appointment is a sort of victory of Hindu pride. Not my style of Hinduism or India.

We are bigoted people. Deep down. We love it.

The 44-year-old MP from Gorakhpur was elected the BJP legislature party leader at a meeting of the newly elected MLAs on Saturday. BJP has last week won a resounding three-fourth majority in the key Hindi heartland state, making a comeback to power after 15 years. State BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was himself in contention for the top job, first announced Adityanath's election. Maurya, the MP from Phulpur in Allahabad, will be the Deputy Chief Minister apart from senior BJP leader and Lucknow Mayor Dinesh Sharma.
After being elected, Adityanath said that he would follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'sabka saath, sabka vikas' slogan and exuded confidence that the state would march on the path of development. "I am thankful to Governor Ram Naik who invited me to form government in UP." He also added that his efforts would be to provide "good governance" in the state. He thanked party MLAs for reposing faith in him.
