The Chennai Police will conduct an identification parade for accused Ramkumar at Puzhal central prison on Monday, ANI reported.

Ram Kumar allegedly murdered the 24-year-old IT professional Swathi in broad daylight on June 24 at Nungambakkam railway station in Chennai and later went absconding. He was arrested from his house in Meenakshipuram near Shencottah in Tirunelveli district on July 1. When police went to arrest him, he allegedly used a knife and slashed his neck to evade arrest. However, this has been disputed in his bail petition.

He was taken to Tirunelveli Medical College hospital and treated for his wounds and later brought here and admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital on July 3.

A team of doctors had been monitoring his progress and they expressed satisfaction over his condition following which he was lodged in the Puzhal central prison on July 6 , jail officials said

Ramkumar's bail plea hearing was adjourned by the Chennai High Court to July 15th. An advocate has filed a bail petition for Ramkumar claiming that police had foisted the case against him.

While the bail petition claimed that police personnel caused the injuries on Ramkumar's neck, the advocate Krishnamurthy, who filed the petition said he was yet to speak to Ramkumar, on behalf of whom he filed the bail petition. In his bail application filed before the principal district sessions court, Ramkumar claimed that he did not kill Swathi, nor did he attempt to slit his throat and alleged that some persons who accompanied the police during his arrest had assaulted him with a blade and then made up the suicide story.
