Harish's body has been taken for a post-mortem. Triplicane Deputy Commissioner Perumal was quoted as saying that the postmortem is expected to be done on Friday and the cause of death would be known only then.

The report also quotes a senior police officer as saying that Harish failed the language paper (Tamil) five times. This is mandatory to clear for a promotion. Harish was also said to be unhappy many of his batchmates had got promotions. Police sources have been quoted as saying that Harish was also facing disciplinary action for alleged misconduct during training stints at Kilakarai and Tirupaarankundram.
