Chennai Airport has been temporarily closed due to waterlogging after heavy rains. With the MET predicting heavy rains over the already rain-hit Chennai and northern Tamil Nadu for the next three to four days, the state government has issued a flood alert.

According to reports, the flood alert has been issued to the people living on the banks of river Adyar in Chennai, as the area remains to be battered by the un-relenting rains affecting daily life.

Fresh spell of rain battered many parts of Tamil Nadu and disrupted normal life, submerging pockets of Chennai under water. Schools and colleges in Chennai were once again shut as a result of the continuous rain.

The MET office has forecasted scattered to heavy rainfall on Tuesday in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu following a trough of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, closer to Sri Lanka.
