The rains seem to have subsided in Chennai city, but heavy waterlogging in most parts has affected the lives of many people. Boats are being used to rescue people in areas like Velachery to take them to temporary shelters.

Now, the major concern for Corporation authorities is illness and disease due to water stagnation. Many medical camps have been set up across the city. A report in The New Indian Express states that people coming to medical camps are suffering from fever, vomiting and mud fever - painful infected sores in the foot. There is also the fear of dengue, malaria and chikungunya due to mosquitoes breeding as a result of all the stagnant water in the city.

Some public health experts have stated that contamination of rain water with sewage could lead to the spread of diseases like cholera and diarrhoea. A report in a leading daily states that emergency health camps were to be set up at the entrance of four government hospitals in Chennai  - Government General Hospital, Stanley Medical College and Hospital, Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital and Government Royapettah Government Hospital.
