Chennai man accused of murdering his mother and a seven-year-old girl escapes from Mumbai Police custody

S Dashwanth, an accused in the rape and murder of a-seven-year-old girl and a suspect in the murder of his own mother, has escaped from the police custody near the Mumbai airport when Tamil Nadu police team was escorting him on Thursday a day after nabbing him.

According to police sources, Dashwanth was handcuffed when he escaped from the police custody. The accused was heading to a toilet near the Mumbai airport when he gave a slip to the police on Thursday evening. The 23-year-old Dashwanth who was arrested from Race Course in Mumbai on Wednesday was earlier produced in the Bandra Court and availed a transit warrant.

The accused who was out on bail in the child rape and murder case was missing since December 2 when his mother Sarala was found murdered in his home with her jewellery missing. His father accused him of murdering his wife. He alleged that his son was demanding money for some days and he refused to give him. The police traced Dashwanth to Mumbai after enquired his prison friends – history sheeters James and David.

In February this year, Hasini, a seven-year-old went missing and later her burnt body was found. Dashwanth who was residing in the same apartment complex was arrested by the police for rape and murder of the girl child. The Mahila Court framed charges against Daswant and the trial in the case was set to begin on December 5. The case was adjourned as Daswant went missing.
