Early media reports suggest that the cause of the fire could be an electric short circuit.

A major fire has broken out in some textile shops in Tambaram, Chennai, state media reports. The fire reportedly started at a godown in West Tambaram on Shanmugam Road. It quickly spread to numerous shops. As per latest reports, three textile stores there have caught fire.
Residents say that three fire engines are at the spot now and that the police have evacuated people from the area. Early media reports suggest that the cause could be an electric short circuit.
