Chennai Floods: Over 195 crore contributed to CM's public relief fund

A total sum of Rs 195.43 crore has so far been contributed to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund (CMPRF) for the state government's rain relief efforts.

A total sum of Rs 195.43 crore has so far been contributed to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund (CMPRF) for the state government's rain relief efforts.

AIADMK MPs, Ministers, MLAs and corporate heads contributed more than Rs 25 crore towards the fund on Tuesday. AIADMK parliamentarians, including Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha M Thambidurai, handed over their one month's salary of Rs 24.50 lakh to Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at the Secretariat here on Tuesday, an official release said today.

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal and senior ministers, including O Panneerselvam and AIADMK MLAs contributed Rs 75.36 lakh towards the fund, it said.

Earlier, Jayalalithaa had said her party MPs and MLAs will contribute their one month's salary towards flood relief and restoration activities.

CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services, N Chandrasekaran, gave Rs 10 crore while Executive Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd Dr Preetha Reddy, and Sundaram Fasteners CMD Suresh Krishna contributed Rs three crore each, it said.

The New India Assurance Co CMD G Srinivasan presented Rs three crore, while IOCL and CPCL contributed a total sum of Rs 4.77 crore including a day's salary of their employees.

Director of Tamil eveninger 'Malai Murasu,' R Kannan Adithan, gave Rs one crore, the release said, adding Rs 195.43 crore has been contributed towards the CMPRF.
