Chennai floods: Helpline numbers for rescue operations, food, blankets, accommodation, stranded animals and more

After non-stop heavy rain pounded Chennai and neighbouring areas all through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the flood situation in the city and in Puducherry has become critical. 

Rescue operations are on on a large scale and the Indian Navy and Army have been pressed into service. Here are some useful helpline numbers for anyone stranded in the floods or needing help.
