The Delhi Police has charged climate change scientist RK Pachauri of outraging the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment, stalking and criminal intimidation, reports a leading English daily. The 500-page chargesheet which is now undergoing scrutiny before being filed, has concluded that Pachauri 'misused his office' as director general of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and said that there is 'enough evidence to prosecute' him.

The chargesheet is being looked at by the prosecution branch of the Delhi Police before they file it. The Police had also informed a High Court bench on Thursday that it will file the charge sheet in the case within 15 days and the draft report has already been sent  to prosecution branch.

The police have charged him under 354, 354A, 354D and 506 the same sections they had booked him under, around a year after the complaint by the victim.

According to the chargesheet, Pachauri made 34 calls to the complainant from his mobile phone between February 2014 and March 2015 and exchanged 6,000 SMSes and WhatsApp messages with the complainant between 2013 and February 2015.

Pachauri had said that his phone was hacked by unidentified persons, a claim dismissed by the police. But a report by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to confirm the same is awaited.

The police will not wait for the FSL report to file the chargesheet, but instead may file a supplementary chargesheet once they receive it.

Pachauri is on leave from TERI again after mounting pressure from many quarters to take action against him. Amid a public outcry over the 75-year-old scientist's return as TERI's Executive Vice Chairman despite sexual harassment allegations against him, its Governing Council asked him to go on an indefinite leave from all positions at the institute.

Ashok Chawla has been appointed as TERI's new Chairman.
