A day after a massive software glitch grounded Air India's operations for several hours, the cascading effect of the tech snag continued to throw the national carrier's flight schedules off the kilter on Sunday.

Officials said 137 flights were delayed by nearly 3 hours worldwide, once again leaving thousands of passengers stranded. According to Air India, disruptions are expected on Monday.

The passenger service system software that looks after check-in, baggage and reservation crashed around 3 am on Saturday and could be restored only around 8.45 am. As a result, passengers could not be issued boarding passes.

The PSS is managed by an Atlanta-based company.

"Due to Saturday's snag, 137 flights across Air India's network worldwide will be delayed on Sunday by 197 minutes on an average," said a spokesperson for Air India.

The spokesperson added, "The effect will remain for more 48 hours on Monday, however, to assume the number of delays will not be correct. Once the flight is delayed on first sector, it is bound to be delayed in the following sectors later. It takes time for the operations to normalise."

In the domestic sector, Mumbai and Delhi airports were worst hit. On Sunday too, many passengers took to social media sharing their anger and plight.

"Severe mismanagement by air India staffers art Mumbai airport. Flights delayed yet no info. Need immediate assistance; pax frustrated," tweeted a flyer waiting at Mumbai airport.

A similar glitch had been reported in June 2018 during which several flights were delayed.

MONDAY BLUES

Air India officials said effect of the software snag that crippled its passenger service system on Saturday will continue to be felt on Monday as well. On Sunday, Mumbai and Delhi airports were worst hit in the country.
