Chandrapur and Ballarshah railway stations in Maharashtra have bagged first prize as the most beautiful stations in the country. "Both the stations were adjudged first among 62 entries from 11 zones on Indian Railways, reviewed by a Committee consisting of executive directors of Station Development, Passenger Marketing, Tourism and other departments. The Award carries an amount of Rs 10 lakhs," Central Railways said.

Paintings, art installations and sculptures are all based on the wildlife that visitors can expect to see at the national park. The beautification project by Central Railways, at both the stations, was carried out with the help of the District Collector of Chandrapur and Ballarshah, the Forest department and students from Nagpur's government-run fine arts colleges.
Cartoons have been drawn as a special attraction for children. The foot-over-bridges – with various wild animals drawn on the steps – have become a popular selfie point for visitors.
"This is yet another achievement by Central Railway," said Sunil Udasi, spokesperson of CR. "The beautification of Chandrapur and Ballarshah stations will bring a smile and relief to the passengers who alight after a tiresome long-distance journey."
Udasi says this will boost tourism, and in turn, employment in the region. "One is tempted to go closer, observe and take a selfie," he said.
Western Railway's Gandhidham station in Ahmedabad division won third position in the same competition.
