Chandni Chowk constituency in North Delhi over the years have sent several luminaries to the Parliament and have also seen many high-profile candidates bite the dust. It has been a bell-weather constituency since 1998, i.e whichever party has won from here has gone on to form government in the centre.

In historical Chandni Chowk, a keen three-way fight is taking place between Congress, BJP and AAP in the Lok Sabha polls. Vijay Goel won in 1998 and 99, Kapil Sibal won in 2004 and 2009 before coming third in 2014, behind winner Harsh Vardhan and runners up Ashutosh from AAP.

On May 12 voters of Chandni Chowk will have to decide between BJP's Harsh Vardhan, Congress' Jai Prakash Agarwal and AAP's Pankaj Gupta. JP Agarwal is a former three-time MP from this constituency who also won from North East Delhi once before losing the last election. He is back to his old seat and is banking on his old connections to win in a seat where much of Congress votes have migrated to AAP. AAP's Pankaj Gupta is contesting for the first time and is up against two Delhi stalwarts. But he hopes that Kejriwal's work for the poorer sections of the society, the slum dwellers will help him win this difficult battle. His manifesto talks about setting up a start-up hub in a constituency with a huge trading constituency.

Incumbent MP Harsh Vardhan is hoping for strong support from the trading community though the opposition is raising issues like GST, sealing and demonetization, all of which they believe hurt the business class. But affable Harsh Vardhan is hopeful that his appeal to all sections of the society along with the respect people have for PM Modi is enough to ensure his victory. An AAP- Congress alliance could have made Harsh Vardhan's life much more difficult though the Union Minister claims otherwise.

Post-2008 delimitation, Chandni Chowk's boundaries have been significantly redrawn and now Adarsh Nagar,Shalimar Bagh,Shakur Basti,Tri Nagar,Wazirpur,Model Town,Sadar Bazar,Chandni Chowk,Matia Mahal and Ballimaran. In the past, Congress has won the seat eight times and BJP four times. Will AAP create a history or will one of the old warhorses triumph again? We will know on May 23.
