Several members of AAP and SAD on Monday joined Congress in the presence of state unit president Amarinder Singh.

SAD leader Balbir Sidhu and Soni Ghalib, son of former MP late Gurcharan Singh Ghalib, as well as Olympian and AAP member Surinder Singh Sodhi joined the Congress.

Amarinder Singh welcomed them, saying Sodhi's decision to leave AAP and join the Congress showed that not only party leaders but also eminent people who had joined Arvind Kejriwal's party with massive hope were now becoming "disenchanted" and moving towards the Congress.

A large number of Akali and AAP councillors and workers also became part of the Congress on the occasion.

"There is clearly a huge wave in favour of the Congress ahead of the Punjab Assembly election," Amarinder said.

Sodhi had joined AAP only five months ago after taking premature retirement from the post of inspector general of police.
