The Centre on Thursday submitted before the Supreme Court that Sanskrit will be the third language in Classes 6 to 8 in Kendriya Vidyalayas.

According to reports, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi sought permission from a bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu to file an affidavit on the controversy arising out of Centre's decision to drop German as an alternative to Sanskrit as third language in Kendriya Vidyalayas.

The bench reportedly allowed him to file an affidavit that will be examined by the court on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Counsel for the petitioners reportedly contended that the decision of selecting language should be left to the students and parents.

The counsel reportedly said that the government should not impose its decision on the students and parents in the middle of the academic session.
