The Centre has been striving to promote rural, women and SC/ST entrepreneurs, Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Kalraj Mishra has said.

Mishra attended the Women's International Summit for Entrepreneurship (WISE 2014) last night and inaugurated a business session, according to a release issued by the organisers today.

The minister said the MSME Ministry has been working to simplify the process of establishing micro, small and medium enterprises so that more people can come forward to start their own enterprise.

He said the government would ensure that all the public sector units procure 20 per cent of goods from MSMEs and 4% from women entrepreneurs.

The government is looking at amending public procurement policy to incorporate provisions against those who fail to meet the mandatory procurement, the release quoted Mishra as saying.

"It is easy to start rural entrepreneurship as not much capital is required. The sample products produced to procure orders are good but the final products when delivered are no way comparable to the sample. It is nothing but cheating on quality which is not good.

"China stands strong on the quality parameters. Also packaging gimmicks adopted by many entrepreneurs is also equally a matter of great concern. Tall promises made on packaging are no where comparable to the product inside," he said.
