Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Karnataka, inaugurated the Integrated Food Park at Tamkur on Wednesday.

Speaking after the inauguration, Modi said, "I dedicate this food park to India's farmers. The food park, which has been established in collaboration with the state and Central government, shows that states need to be developed in order to develop the nation."

Mentioning that the central government and the states all have contributed to this food park, the PM said, "If you have to take the country forward, you will have to take the state forward. If the state make progress, country will make progress. We have to understand the feelings of the states and we have to work together to implement schemes."

Stressing that we should not waste food, he said, "Preventing wastage of food and agricultural commodities can help save up to Rs 40,000 crore per annum."

He further added, "Earlier, states were in the race with the Centre, but the country cannot be run in this way. Both Centre and the states will have to work has a team. Political differences shouldn't come in the way of the nation's development. The chief minister addressed everyone in Kannada. I do not understand the language, but I understood what he said. The prime minister and the chief minister may belong to any party, but the nation is one and we all have to walk shoulder to shoulder to achieve more."

Stating that farmers work to provide food to us, but they fail to get returns, Modi said, "There is a need to make value additions and it will happen only if we could take it forward through technology."

"Farmers lacks basic facilities like ware housing, storage. As there are no good roads, they fail to take their production to market. For economical development of farmers, better facilities need to be given to them. Formers should get better market, good price and storage facilities. If we do this, the whole country will proper." he said "Farmers should be introduced to global market. If mangoes are made into pickles, it will get more revenue to farmers. Mangoes sell at a regional level, but mango pickles sell worldwide."
