Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday asked the media to show some positive news, instead of highlighting only the negatives prevalent in society. The CM was speaking at the inaugural of "Bihar Conclave - the new road map", organised by leading regional news channel "Zee Bihar-Jharkhand" at a premier city hotel here on Tuesday.

While inaugurating the event, Nitish lauded the efforts of Zee Bihar-Jharkhand, a sister concern of DNA, for raising issues relevant to the society and the development of the region. Throwing light on some of the developmental works undertaken since he assumed office in 2005, Nitish said, "Bihar's good governance and developmental works are now a matter of discussion globally. People are talking about how Bihar is achieving greater heights by the day."

Nitish said until the base is strong, it is not possible to reach the top. The CM also listed various schemes for strengthening transportation and communication networks, improvement in power situation, infrastructure, health and education sectors and women empowerment as steps taken by his government for the development of Bihar.

The Bihar CM cited the example of primary education in the state where the number of out-of-school children had reduced from 12.5% to 1% during his regime. "I don't do politics in matters of development. There is a need now to raise widespread awareness against social evils prevalent in the society for which we are doing a lot of things," he said.

On October 2, Bihar has launched a mega-campaign to spread awareness against child marriage and dowry system, while it has already enforced total alcohol prohibition and is crusading against drug addictions of all types. While Bihar already has national level institutions such as the IIT, IIM, AIIMS, NIFT, and Panchari National Law University, Nitish said the government was planning to open agriculture, polytechnic, medical and engineering colleges in every district so that students do not have to venture outside the state for higher education. "The government should also work towards creating an environment for producing teachers, so that the shortage of teachers can be filled," he added.

Highlighting Bihar's developmental plans for the next few years, Nitish said, "Keeping in mind that 76% of Bihar's population is dependent on agriculture, we have for a Krishi roadmap 2017-222, which is likely to be launched by President Ram Nath Kovind. Our vision is not just to increase the earning of farmers, but also that there should be one Bihari delicacy in every platter in India." He added that the state was also trying to attract investors through its new industrial policy.

Speaking on the occasion, Sushil Kumar Modi, the deputy CM of Bihar said, Bihar development vehicle has received a double-engine boost ever since the governments at the Centre and state is same. "After some fast paced development in NDA, we are facing new problems and challenges. A lot of work needs to be done in sectors such as food processing, IT and urban development," he said. Modi outlined agriculture, health and real estate/housing as some of the areas where investment could come in Bihar. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has oft repeated that the nation will not develop until Bihar and other eastern states develop. Each paise of PM's special package for Bihar will accelerate the state's development," he added.

He also took a dig at the Mahagathbandhan stating Bihar's development had halted for a while in the past few years, but it has gained pace now that the Centre and state are working in tandem for its progress.

On the occasion, Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) President Ram Vilas Paswan too reiterated that the Centre and state, both were committed towards the development of Bihar. "The previous government was a disappointment to the people," he said.

Paswan lauded the Bihar CM saying, "It is only three months since the formation of the NDA government, but Bihar has done good work. Nitish has already been ready for doing developmental works." He also took queries from the audience related to his ministry and said total digitisation will prove to be a boon for beneficiaries.

The event witnessed participation of a several senior Bihar politicians including Nand Kishore Yadav, Prem Kumar, Jai Kumar Singh and Ashok Choudhary besides a galaxy of who's who of the state. While the guests were welcomes by Zee Bihar-Jharkhand channel head Purushottam Vaishnav, who said Zee media stands with all positive decision and the conclave is an effort to tell the people across the globe, how Bihar is changing, editor Kumar Prabodh thanked the dignitaries and guests for their whole hearted participation in the event.
