A delegation from Assam, led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, met Gadkari On Wednesday.
The Centre on Wednesday sanctioned Rs 200 crore for repair of national highways in Assam which was damaged by the recent floods.
Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping, promised more fund for repair of the north eastern state's highway network after a central team completes an assessment of the exact damage.
A statement from the ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that the minister has also sanctioned Rs 400 crore for dredging work in Brahmaputra.
Gadkari said the Brahmaputra Express Highway will be constructed in Assam as a highway-cum-embankment to check floods in future.

The minister said the situation in Assam has been reviewed and Rs 200 crore was sanctioned for repairing damaged national highways, adding that additional funds of Rs 400 crore has been sanctioned for dredging in Brahmaputra river, also for the purpose of controlling floods.
The minister said floods get worse in Brahmaputra as silt is not removed from the river bed.
"Large scale work needs to be done and we have sanctioned Rs 400 crore for dredging in the 600-km length," Gadkari said, adding that the work will start in September.
He said it is for the first time that the Centre would construct seven bridges in Assam as against three bridges which were built after independence.
"Work on two bridges are on and detailed project report (DPR) will be made for the others soon," he said, adding that the government plans a multi-purpose express highway in Assam, for which the state government will prepare a DPR.
"The dredging material will be used in the multipurpose express highway. It will also act as an embankment of Brahmaputra, for controlling floods," he said.
The proposal for the 5,000-km express highway was submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 18, and its cost would be assessed after the completion of its DPR.
Aside Sonowal, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan also met Gadkari on Wednesday and discussed about Vizhinjam Port and expansion of highways in the southern state.
A release stated Gadkari has assured the Kerala chief minister that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will soon be floating tenders for six laning of highways in the state.
