The Centre on Tuesday came out strongly against Congress allegations that it has quashed proceedings against the Adani Enterprise. The reponse came in retaliation to Congress MP Jairam Ramesh's charges on Monday that the central government was favouring the Adani Group in an investigation conducted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) which has alleged overvaluation of coal imports.

Highly-placed sources in the government, while refuting Congress allegations, said that on the contrary, three showcause notices involving various transactions have been issued between 2014 and 2016 to the firm. Also, after adjudication of two cases, the orders – in-original – were reviewed by a Committee of Chief Commissioners of Customs in August, 2017 and October 2017 respectively. Subsequently, appeals were filed before the Customs, Excise and Service-tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) Mumbai Bench in November 2017 and February, 2018 respectively. "It is noteworthy that the cases under investigation primarily pertain to the period of UPA government i.e. 2010 onwards," sources added.
