The Centre has refused to take action against the Green Tribunal head, who is a former Supreme Court judge and faces sexual harassment allegation levelled against him by his former intern, saying the alleged misconduct was not done during his tenure in the tribunal.

Filing an affidavit through its director Rakesh Kumar Aggarwal before the Supreme Court, the ministry of environment and forest said, "So far as the ministry is concerned, even though this ministry is the nodal ministry, the alleged misconduct of the present chairperson of National Green Tribunal (NGT) does not pertain to nor is in way relatable to the period during which he has been holding the office of the chairperson of NGT."

The SC is hearing a petition filed by the law intern alleging the former top court judge for sexually harassing her during her internship.
