Centre plans 'think tank' to counter radicalisation

The think tank will look upon how the issue of radicalisation needs to be tackled rather than normal law and order situation.

To counter radicalisation of youths by global and home-grown terror groups, the Centre has planned to constitute a think tank to deal with security challenges and bring these youths back in mainstream. The body would act as a 'non-official' counter propagandist and help in strengthening the Indian Islam by involving moderate cleric and centres.

Sources said once the think tank successfully starts working on a de-radicalisation mode and methods, "the outcomes of which may be disseminated for further implementation among states."

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been given task to set up a think tank to counter radicalisation as it is challenging India's liberal and secular fabric. It has been found that the global organisations are now capable to reach out to large number of innocent's youths permanently damaging their minds by radicalising them posing serious security challenges for the government. To stop this from happening, government has plans to set up a think tank as one of its various measures.

The think tank will look upon how the issue of radicalisation needs to be tackled rather than normal law and order situation.

The body would also study the madrassa and mainstream educational system, while looking at the international and online domains for radicalisation factors," sources in the Central government said.

The body would also involved in liaison with moderate clerics, centres and communities and collect propaganda used to target the youths and share with counter-radicalisation teams. Their task would also be to provide training to the police officials about radicalisation and way to counter it.

Bring the boys back

It will look after the legal authority for the police to bring marginally radicalised youth, who were on the verge of committing a crime, back to mainstream by being generous to them.
