In an apparent bid to get the PDP along its probable partner for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP led NDA government on Friday enhanced the compensation package for the 2014 flood victims in the state.

The express decision was taken after J&K governor NN Vohra met union home minister Rajnath Singh and union finance minister Arun Jaitley amid speculations to discuss government formation and enhancing relief compensation for flood victims as an immediate measure.

Rajnath Singh is expected to discuss with the prime minister Narendra Modi soon to and get an early concurrence for the entire available funds being utilised to also suitably compensate the owners of severely and partially damaged pacca and katcha houses.

"The compensation package is expected to be enhanced from the current Rs1 lakh for fully damaged houses and Rs50,000 for partially damaged houses as it has been found too less and hardly compensate the damage," said sources.

The PDP, probable partner with the BJP in next J&K government, which is slated to be formed immediately after the Delhi assembly elections on February 7, apparently, wants to soothe tempers of people in the valley and does not want them to get swayed by the hard-line faction of the separatists who do not want the PDP to have any truck with the BJP.

Informed government sources said that government formation in J&K by BJP and PDP combine remains only a formality now as both parties have creased out the contentious issues and is expected to take place almost immediately after Delhi assembly elections i.e. February 7.

Vohra is expected to call on prime minister Narendra Modi on Saturday morning after which it was expected that an in-principle nod for a package for the state would be given, official sources said.

Rajnath Singh and Vohra also had an extensive discussion on issues relating to border management that has become critical during recent cease fire violation incidents by Pakistan. Union home secretary, Anil Goswami will be visiting Jammu next week for a comprehensive review of all the border development related schemes.
